Colleague Box and The Environment - What We Are Doing

Updated: May 6

We take our environmental responsibility seriously and we want to share what we do at Colleague Box to reduce our impact on the environment and also how we are working with suppliers and partners to give something back.

Our packaging

We have chosen our box suppliers very carefully and we are pleased to say that our box suppliers take their responsibility to the environment very seriously, just like us. In fact our boxes are fully degradable, recyclable, reusable and made from partially recycled material.

Our suppliers work with Eden Reforestation Projects and fund the planting of one tree for every order that they receive regardless of the value, adding trees back to areas across the globe that have been deforested, helping to look after our environment and help people in the process. Not only that, they are very local to us, cutting down on our carbon footprint.

Our paper

Recipients of our boxes will know that our boxes are beautifully packaged with shredded and tissue paper, not just to look lovely but also to protect your delicious contents from the bumps and knocks of the postal system. Our paper is reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.

Flexi hex

We didn't want to use bubble wrap for glass ware and bottles anymore so we searched for a better alternative that would keep your bottles safe in transit but is also kind to the environment. We found Flexi-hex... their mission; "to reduce global plastic production within the packaging industry." Perfect! Instagram worthy but more importantly, made from over 85% recycled material, is 100% plastic free, composts in 6 weeks and is domestically recyclable. Find out more here.

Too Good To Go

We have signed up to become a partner of Too Good To Go which is a social impact company driving a movement against food waste. Their app is the world’s largest B2C marketplace for surplus food. The app connects users with businesses that have surplus food, so that this food can be enjoyed instead of wasted. Users get delicious meals at a great price, businesses reach new customers and recover sunk costs, and the planet has less wasted food to deal with - it’s a win-win-win. Find out more here.

Jungle Culture

Jungle Culture believe that businesses should bear the responsibility to ensure that their products and services are made ethically. That is why they take a hands-on approach to product sourcing. They design and create our sustainable products, take the time to visit the farm or workshop that manufacture them first, oversee their operation and make sure that everything is created fairly, whilst minimising waste. Find their straws and bamboo cups in our gift boxes coming soon. Find out more about them here.

BrewDog's Punk IPA is a staple in our Craft Beer Box and not just because our CEO Adam is a huge fan of the beverage! BrewDog are on a mission to 'Make Earth Great Again' and are now a carbon negative company meaning they take twice as much carbon out of the air as they emit. Super impressive. You can find out more about their eco mission here.

Tonys Chocolonely

Tony's actively encourages the farmers who supply their beans to implement more environmentally friendly production methods and deforestation is strictly prohibited. Ultimately, they want to ensure that whenever someone eats a bar of Tony's they're making a positive contribution to the environment. In 2012 they also changed the wrappers on the bars, now using uncoated, recycled FSC-certified paper. Find their bars in our Birthday Boxes, Ultimate Awards Night Box as well as other gift boxes. Find out more here.

Dash say: "We infuse our super tasty waters with real, wonky fruit. That’s bent, crushed, curved, knobbly, misshapen fruit which others say no to. By accepting the misfits we are helping to reduce food waste." We love this and that's why you will now start to find them in our gin boxes - once our stock arrives! Find out more about Dash Water here.

We're not perfect.

We know we still have a long way to go but we are making huge strides in our efforts to become a zero waste company and we look forward to continuing on this journey with our partners and suppliers to do that and more. We only launched this business in May 2020 and have been on a huge learning curve since then but we feel like we are heading in the right direction. We will update this blog with more of our awesome suppliers and ways we are improving our impact on the environment.

Adam, Natalie and the Colleague Box Team.
